Standing Up for Taxpayer Truth
Bloomfield Township Trustee Mark Antakli has submitted a formal request to the Michigan Department of Treasury seeking an independent review of certain Township financial management, reporting, and internal control practices.
The Questions: At meeting after meeting, Mark has asked the hard questions about where your money is going. Instead of clear answers, he's been met with silence, conflicting stories, or "I don’t know" from the people in charge. It's all in the videos of the board meetings -- watch them yourself.
The "No" Votes: Mark refuses to rubber-stamp budgets while the truth is hidden. To protect your interests, he has voted "no" on every budget and payroll authorization during his term. He says he cannot vote "yes" on financial practices that do not conform to standards or on numbers not fully disclosed to the public.
The Whistleblower Filing: Because these concerns remain unresolved, Mark has officially requested an independent state review from the Michigan Department of Treasury. He filed a formal whistleblower report to ensure your assets are protected by the State, not just managed by unwritten shortcuts.
The Red Flags: This isn’t a personal dispute; it’s a regulatory necessity. Even the Township’s own auditors are now flagging the need to examine pervasive risks of "Management Override of Controls" and "Manipulation of Data".
The Goal: Mark is asking the State to verify that actions and policies are consistent with Michigan law, accepted municipal finance standards, and fiduciary responsibilities. Whether it’s a 15,000% gap in reported investment earnings or a hidden $16 million payroll crisis, residents deserve a financial system that follows the law and respects the public's right to know.
Fiduciary Duty: This decision was not made lightly. Mark was required to submit this request based on the oath of office he took. He is fulfilling his duties as a Trustee in good faith by bringing his questions about accounting, reporting, reserve-management, and fund-transfer practices to the State.

Rather than relying on summaries, commentary, or competing interpretations, visitors are encouraged to examine the documents themselves and draw their own conclusions. Mark does not ask readers to assume wrongdoing, but is asking the state for an independent review of the records.

Why This Matters
Bloomfield Township has one of the strongest tax bases in Michigan, ranking in the 89th percentile statewide for Taxable Value Per Capita. Yet, according to the Michigan Department of Treasury's MI Community Financial Dashboard, the Township ranked near the bottom of Michigan townships in several key measures of financial condition during 2024 and 2025.
These rankings do not explain why the Township received those scores, nor do they establish that any particular financial practice caused them. They do, however, provide important context for the questions raised in the Treasury submission and help explain why an independent review has been requested.
